Summary: Log opened at 0001 hours 23 May 1969. Unit locations: At LZ Oasis grid ZA117277; Battalion Headquarters (Forward), 1/35th Command Post is at LZ Oasis ZA117277; A Company at ZA075416; B Company at ZA064254; C Company at ZA040363; D Company at YA982285; Recon platoon is located at ZA127418; 4.2" mortar platoon located at YA982285; Headquarters and Headquarters Company Support (S-4 Forward) at LZ Oasis; At Base Camp (Camp Enari); Battalion Headquarters (Rear).

At 0443 hours on 23 May 69 LZ Oasis was receiving incoming at this time, alarm was sounded. At 0445 hours on 23 May 69 LZ Oasis receiving more incoming, D Company saw flashes 100 degrees range 4 to 6 kilometers. At 1418 hours on 23 May 69 70 element B Company grid ZA062268 spotted two VC/NVA across the blue line, employed S/A, M-79, 81mm fire. Results were 1 Ak-47, 1 KIA VC/NVA with green fatigues, 4 AK magazines, 2 Chicom grenades, 1 NVA rucksack, 1 pistol belt, 1 cooking pot, 1 gas mask (Chinese), 20 pounds of rice, plastic.

0443 hours (C) LZ Oasis is receiving incoming at this time sounded alarm.

0456 hours (U) DELAYED ENTRY - On 23 May 69 at 0445 hours our people at Thanh An say they also have incoming.

0600 hours (C) Received some more rounds incoming and D Co says they saw flashes on 100 to 110 degree azimuth, 4 to 6 clicks range estimate and element at Rock Quarry says they saw flashes approximately 2 clicks due south.

0946 hours (U) DELAYED ENTRY - On 23 May 69 at 0940 hours B Co to TOC: B Co's 86 element found remains of downed chopper at grid ZA064245, tail #16583 looks like it had already been stripped and it is a slick.

1035 hours (C) B Co to TOC: 70 element at ZA059266 found 1 bag individual type with food of an unknown kind, few trails along stream recently used within 2 to 3 days.

1043 hours (C) B Co to TOC: Reference to earlier message about downed slick; All parts were real old and rusty, found C-rations cans all around and looks like another element found it before. We are unable to determine whether it had bullet holes or not.

1130 hours (C) B Co to TOC: 16 element found at grid ZA953263 a campsite along blueline showed signs of eating and sleeping in last two days, sandal and barefoot tracks heading south along blueline about 15 individuals.

1231 hours (C) A Co is going to CA at 1345 hours Recon is going to CA at 1320 hours.

1339 hours (C) First PZ 1330 hours Recon, 1st LZ is at 1339 hours.

1418 hours (C) From B Co to TOC: Spotted 2 VC/NVA across blueline at 062268, employing M-79 and we think we shot one.

1429 hours (C) A Co first PZ at 1429 hours.

1455 hours (C) B Co to TOC: Employed light organics on the contact site. 70 sweeping area at this time.

1520 hours (C) From B Co 70 to TOC: Found 1 KIA VC/NVA green fatigue, 1 AK-47, 4 AK-47 magazines, 2 Chicom grenades, 1 quart canteen, 1 NVA rucksack, 1 pistol belt, 1 cooking pot, 1 gas mask (Chinese), 20 lbs. rice, plastic.

1545 hours (C) From B Co to TOC: 70 element found trail running north at contact site, other VC/NVA believed to have fled north on this trail, 16 has closed the CP.
