Summary: Log opened at 0001 hours 24 May 1969. Unit locations: At LZ Oasis grid ZA117277; Battalion Headquarters (Forward), 1/35th Command Post is at LZ Oasis ZA117277; A Company at ZA013275; B Company at ZA054260; C Company at ZA040363; D Company at YA982285; Recon platoon is located at ZA121283; 4.2" mortar platoon located at YA982285; Headquarters and Headquarters Company Support (S-4 Forward) at LZ Oasis; At Base Camp (Camp Enari); Battalion Headquarters (Rear).

At 0805 hours on 24 May 69 D Company located at the Rock Quarry has tripped a trip flare, fired S/A. Results - found wire cut to last strand, wire cutters, blood, bloody bandage, 2 B-40 rockets, bangalore torpedoes, 7 satchel charges weight of each 12 lbs., 2 Chinese Communist grenades. At 1120 hours on 24 May 69 C Company found a 1000-LB bomb 8 feet long, 2 feet in diameter at location ZA039350. At 1715 hours on 24 May 69 1st platoon of D Company reports convoy receiving small arms fire from both sides of the road at ZA062310. The enemy fired at four vehicles from both sides and the Company employed 6 rounds of light organics, 50 caliber and small arms. Results were unknown. At 1742 hours on 24 May 69 D Company (Rock Quarry) reports spotting enemy in the open at ZA069309, employed light organics and artillery.

0818 hours (U) DELAYED ENTRY - On 24 May 69 at 0805 hours from D Co to TOC: Co reports activity last night on the Rock Quarry on its perimeter on the south and west sides. At south sides they found a large pair of wire cutters, blood, bloody bandage. Wire was cut to the last strand and on the south side the enemy was spotted and guard fired on the movement. They also found 2 B-40 rockets, bangalore torpedoes and 7 satchel charges weighing 10 to 14 lbs. and 2 Chicom grenades.

0840 hours (C) B Co to TOC: 80 element found location ZA057241 personal letters (US), 1/8 of C Co special promotion orders, paper on NCO school, personal pictures (US), Baptism papers with names on letters (Elliott, Ronald), 4 VC/NVA holes 4' x 4', 2 bloody bandages (US), blood on leaves and ground, 1 bloody GI towel the age unknown.

0946 hours (U) DELAYED ENTRY - 24 May 69 at 0843 hours D Co to TOC: On the side the wire was cut to the last strand of concertina. On the west side it was cut to the 1st strand of concertina. The trip flares were tied up.

1120 hours (C) C Co to TOC: Found a bomb about 1000 lbs., 8 feet long x 2 feet diameter, yellow marking on it, writing on it aircraft - something, location about ZA039350.

1405 hours (C) From A Co to TOC: 70 element (3d plt) found 5 tunnels at ZA001288 approximately 2 by 4 feet. Found in the tunnel were 1 bamboo mat, 1 clay bowl, 1 Montagnard basket, 1 bell, 1 gong, 1 ceremony type - not destroyed.

1451 hours (C) PZ First Recon.

1525 hours (C) LZ final Recon.

1715 hours (C) From D Co to TOC: 1st plt at Rock Quarry reports convoy receiving S/A fire. From approximately ZA062310, they employed 6 rounds light organics, 50 caliber, S/A. There were 4 VC/NVA who were firing on the truck and fire came from both sides of the road. 4 vehicles coming to the Oasis.

1742 hours (C) From D Co to TOC: Rock Quarry reports spotting enemy in open at ZA069309, they are employing light organics, artillery.

2030 hours (C) C Co hears burst of automatic weapons fire to their west about 1 to 2 clicks.

2051 hours (C) From B Co: They heard 6 tubes from ZA016255, negative impact.

2051 hours (C) From A Co: 03 element heard tube pop to the southeast - unknown distance.

2051 hours (C) Rock Quarry sees flashes 3500 mils (185 degrees azimuth) 3000 meters away.

2100 hours (C) From B Co: 1 rocket from between ZA027262 to 035268.

2350 hours (C) C Co reports hearing tubes popping northeast 2 to 2 1/2 clicks and impacting due north.

2315 hours (C) Recon also hears them due west.
