2/35th
Submitted by: Jim "Doc" Hall
On October 12, 1970 the 2/35th was called out of the field for the final time. All units were congregated to LZ Peggy. From here they were convoyed the same day back to Camp Radcliff (coordinates BR465467).
While at Camp Radcliff a variety of duties were undertaken to close down operations and get the colors ready to return to the States. Many (if not most) of the battalion members were reassigned to other units in Vietnam. Some smaller portion accompanied the unit home.
I\'m not certain how everyone was handled but as a member of Hqs Co (at this point) we were moved to Qui Nhon for outprocessing and other details. I, myself, was assigned to a detail that counted and polished dinner serving trays to be turned over to the ARVN. Others in our group were assigned to clean and account for weapons and to count ammo that were also to be turned over to the ARVN. I assume that this same sort of thing was going on throughout the 35th with all items.
During our time in Qui Nhon the monsoons came and much of the base area there was covered deep in runoff water. Towards late November I and fellow medic Dave Dohlhanczyck were reassigned to the 7/15th Arty. I was then reassigned to a battery that was stationed at LZ Oasis where I finished my tour and left country on Dec 22, 1970.
