Recon 2/35th

On the night of June 12th A Co. received mortar fire from the vicinity of a village nearby. The Recon platoon moved at night and surrounded the village. The next morning with the assistance of C Company Recon searched the village. After the search, about 200 meters from the village, the Recon Platoon was ambushed and the Recon pointman Louis Ricardi was wounded. One NVA was killed. The Recon platoon then withdrew and an airstrike was called in. After the strike an NVA bunker complex was found.

0925 hours (C) A Co to TOC: Found some old GI type bunkers, 2 to 3 months old at ZA067372.
1104 hours (C) B Co to TOC: Hears small arms, M-79 and 50 cal approximate coordinate 0134.
1736 hours (C) A Co reports grids ZA058378 found 25 bunkers size 4' x 4' with 1 foot overhead cover about 1 year old.
2230 hours (C) C Co to TOC: Some of our element hear what they think is mortar tubes popping on 330 degree azimuth, 1 click away, check with Arty, they are firing in that general area, informed C Co.
