Summary: Log opened at 0001 hours 12 May 1969. Unit locations: At LZ Oasis grid ZA117277; Battalion Headquarters (Forward), 1/35th Command post is at LZ Oasis ZA117277; A Company (-) at YA982285; B Company at ZA087627; C Company at ZA025194; D Company at YA986216; Recon platoon at ZA062607; 4.2 mortar platoon YA982285; Headquarters and Headquarters Company Support (S-4 Forward) at LZ Oasis; At Base Camp (Camp Enari); Battalion Headquarters (Rear).

At 0940 hours 12 May 69 C Company reported seeing 30 people at coordinate ZA032184, along out ridge line, not friendlies, dressed in black uniforms and they were too far away to distinguish if they were carrying weapons. Their direction of movement was from east to northeast. At the present time C Company is working up a fire mission. At 1010 hours 12 May 69 Bn S-3 (Cpt. Scott) notified C Company of a village from coordinate ZA032184, a small village with many little people moving in the area (Village location ZA045175). He did not notice anyone unusual; individuals you saw might be villagers. Light organics will not be fired and artillery is cancelled. At 1839 hours 12 May 69 C Company's 3d platoon SRP element found built into the side of bank of a hill three bunkers 14 feet long and well camouflaged. They will search them tomorrow. At 1906 hours on 12 May 69 D Company reported a trail wide enough for 2 people to travel abreast on it. The trail showed evidence of recent use and heavy traffic. The direction of the trail was southwest to northeast crossing about 200 meters to the north of my location (coordinate YA986216). My 2nd platoon is in position near the trail 981219, streams in the area are dry, there are some bamboo containers near which seem to be used for carrying water. The trail was marked with Chu Hoi papers and we will check it thoroughly tomorrow. At 1950 hours on 12 May 69 A Company reported that their 3rd platoon located at the Rock Quarry received 20 rounds, Lt. Gentinne had been seriously wounded. Incoming stopped at approximately 2000 hours. At 2030 hours A Company reports that Lt. Gentinne is now a KHA and they also have a wounded medic SP4 Hollisby.

1502 hours (U) DELAYED ENTRY - On 12 May 69 at 1313 hours the 1st PZ for B Co was stated.

1505 hours (U) DELAYED ENTRY - On 12 May 69 at 1507 hours the LZ was completed for B Co.

2011 hours (U) DELAYED ENTRY - On 12 May 69 at 2005 hours A Co reports that the Rock Quarry received 2 rounds of recoilless rifle. Lt. Gentinne has been seriously wounded and incoming has topped approximately 2000 hours.

2030 hours (C) A Co reports that Lt. Gentine is now KHA and they have a medic SP4 Hollisby who is WHA.

2035 hours (C) Recon reports hearing tubes popping at 0424.

2033 hours (C) C Co 80K at ZA023198 hears tubes popping 1 to 2 kilometers east and impacting 5 to 6 kilometers north.
