Summary: Log opened at 0001 hours 14 October 1968. Unit locations: At LZ Joan YA842251; Battalion Headquarters (Forward), A Company B Company, B Battery 1/92 Artillery, C Battery 7/15 Artillery, At LZ Jean YA806233; D Company 1/35, Recon platoon, 1 CSF (Camp Strike Force) from the Special Forces Camp at Duc Co; At LZ Virginia Lee YA842091; A Company, C Battery 2/9 Artillery, 2 CSF platoons from the Special Forces Camp at Duc Co. At LZ Oasis; Headquarters and Headquarters Company Support (S-4 Forward); At LZ Mary Lou ZA227840; 4.2 Mortar platoon OPCON to 1/14 Inf; At Base Camp (Camp Enari); Battalion Headquarters (Rear), E Company (-). Significant activities: At 0210 hours the Brigade S-3 requested that we have one (1) platoon on standby to support 4C 3/8 Infantry operations. The 2nd platoon of A Company (1/35) was put on standby at 0800 hours and was taken off standby at 1600 hours. At 0800 hours C Company and D Company were informed of the minefield locations at grids YA914449. At 0900 hours 1st Sqd of the 3rd platoon of C Company with engineers departed the perimeter with C Company to destroy the bunker complex at grid YA808214. At 1535 hours the unit reported that the bunkers had been destroyed and contaminated with C/S gas. At 0920 hours SRP team 8 reported finding shoe tracks at grid YA799224 on a trail running northwest at an azimuth of 310 degrees. At 1205 hours SRP team 3 from D Company spotted five (5) enemy personnel at grid YA801265. Light organics and artillery were employed. The SRP team could not determine whether or not the rounds were on target. At 1330 hours the S-5 team reported a Med-Cap of 92, vitamin dosages of 250. Tested 2 villages Plei Lap and Plei Plouke. At 1405 hours SRP team 8 from D Company reported finding a possible enemy night location at grid YA799222. The team found at this location butchered chicken, burlap bag, small bag similar to LRP ration bag with the word mutton. Estimated size of the force 8-10 personnel. At 1945 hours II Corps requested to put in an air strike at grid YA769248 at 1045 hours 15 October 1968. The S-3 1/35 disapproved this because of the location of the SRP positions. At 1955 hours we received a message from the Bde S-3: A C/S drop is planned for our A/O sometime on 15 October 1968. The exact time will be sent later. At 2135 hours SRP team 7 from D Company reported small arms fire 600-800 meters to the west of their locations. Team was informed that LRP 3B was in contract in that area. At 2155 hours the Bde S-3 informed the Bn S-3 Major Royal that there would be a Spooky bird in the area. Spooky bird is directed not to fire north of grid YA24 and east of grid YA75. C Company was informed to contact Spooky 34 on 35.70 for contact. AT 2225 hours W-27A informed C-27 to expect 4.2 Mortar Platoon to be returned to this location 16 October 1968.
