Summary: Log opened at 0001 hours 27 May 1969. 0002 hours (C) To CO of C Co from S-3: 1. Continue present operation thru tomorrow. 2. Concentrate search and ambushes tomorrow in areas bounded by 1236, 1234, 1533 and 1534. 3. Be prepared for CA sometime on 28 May to vicinity LZ Kay.
1520 hours (C) From Recon to TOC: At 320-degree azimuth and 300 meters from Recon's position (118348) we are receiving automatic, S/A and mortar fire 60mm.
1520 hours (C) 80 element hears S/A on a 290-degree azimuth 600 meters from ZA129361.
1525 hours (C) From TOC to Bde: Request a set of guns for Recon at ZA118348.
1537 hours (C) Recon says gunships on station for Recon, Gambler 46.
1553 hours (C) Gunships expended, going back to rearm.
1554 hours (C) Recon says cider 30 on station for possible air strike.
1610 hours (C) Recon employing arty at this time.
1615 hours (C) From FAC to TOC: Fighters on station
1629 hours (C) Forward Air Command to TOC: Fighters are going in on 1st bomb run.
1721 hours (C) From S-3 to Recon and C Co: C Co 80, 70 elements are now OPCON to Recon.
1810 hours (C) From Recon to TOC: Air strikes, redleg complete. Recon element and 80, 70 will sweep the area at this time.
1908 hours (C) From B Co to TOC: B Co spot report; 70 element at ZA023243 found a trail junction with a main trail running north-south; 6 to 8 feet wide. Showed signs of recent use, and is well used. 50 meters north of junction found bunker complex approximately 100 bunkers, 3' x 4', 2-foot overhead cover, logs and dirt. They were very old and deteriorating, many had caved in. There was a network of foot trails going through and out of bunker system, running NE, W, SW and NW. Approximately 2 feet wide. Bunker system showed negative use for and unknown time. Also found village at ZA024236 which is not on map.
