Summary: Log opened at 0001 hours 2 November 1968. Unit locations: At LZ Joan YA842251, Battalion Headquarters (Rear), B Company 1/35, B Battery 1/92 Artillery, E Company, Recon Platoon 1/35 Infantry, 4.2" Mortar platoon 1/35 Infantry, Counter Mortar Section 2/9 artillery; 1st Platoon D Co 4th Engineers Battalion, At LZ Jean YA809235; C Company 1/35, D Company 1/35, 1 CSF platoon from the Special Forces Camp at Duc Co, C Battery 2/9 Artillery, 1 AN/TPS-25 section from Division artillery; At LZ Vera YA835178, A Company 1/35 OPCON to 3/8 Infantry, At LZ Oasis; Headquarters and Headquarters Company Support (S-4 Forward); At Base Camp (Camp Enari); Battalion Headquarters (Rear). During the period of 0120 hours and 0556 hours radar section again reported unidentified aircraft within our A/O starting again at 2010 hours and continuing approximately to 2400 hours. Several of the aircraft were reported to be setting down at several locations and taking off again. All the reportings were reported to Bde. The minesweep team from LZ Joan to LZ Oasis received approximately 12 round of AK-47 fire at grid YA922269. No action was taken at that time. Miss Martha Raye visited LZ Joan and LZ Jean at 1030 hours and stayed approximately 30 minutes at each location. At 1030 hours we received a message from Bde: Have D Company ready to make a C/A to grid YA0209, the first lift was off LZ Jean at 1105 hours, the first touched down at grid YA028088 LZ Martha, LZ Green, C/A complete at 1315 hours. D Company and 1 CSF Company from the Special Forces Camp at Duc Co were inserted at the above location in response to enemy activity in the area. Read-out on D Company operation: D Company reported 9 confirmed NVA KIA, 3 credited to them, the individuals that were shot by D Company tried to use hand grenades, found approximately 30 packs, destroyed 15 of the 30, found 5 82mm Mortar rounds, 2 82mm Mortar pits and 15 fighting positions. The Company sustained 2 WIA's not serious, 1 leg wound and 1 side wound. Wounds were caused by fragmentation.
