Summary: Log opened at 0001 hours 22 October 1968. Unit locations: At LZ Joan YA842251, Battalion Headquarters (Forward), A Company 1/35, B Company 1/35, B Battery 1/92 Artillery, Recon Platoon 1/35 Infantry, 4.2 Mortar platoon 1/35 Infantry, Counter Mortar Section 2/9 artillery; At LZ Jean YA809232 C Company 1/35, D Company 1/35, C Battery 2/9 Artillery, 1 CSF (Camp Strike Force) platoon from the Special Forces Camp at Duc Co; At LZ Oasis; Headquarters and Headquarters Company Support (S-4 Forward); At Base Camp (Camp Enari); Battalion Headquarters (Rear), E Company (-). At 0605 hours SRP team 12 from D Company reported movement at grid coordinate YA792211. The team reported that the movement had stopped at 0630 hours. They also round a trail running south to east and north to west believed to have been used recently by 6-10 people. Team 12 reported having one (1) Claymore mine and one (1) trip flare disconnected. A check of the area revealed a trail 8 to 12 feet wide and grass matted down approximately 25 meters from their locations. AT 1200 hours message from the Bde S-3 to Bn S-3 Major Royal: Make a visual reconnaissance Southwest of Duc Co and select a patrol base in the vicinity of grid YA8119. One (1) Company will move to that location either today or tomorrow. Company will establish a SRP screen to the west and south. AT 1240 hours a message was put out to all Company Commanders from S-3: At no time will there be less than 50% of the SRP line occupied. Also does not want two (2) SRP teams rotating together at any one time. It has to be every other one. At 1310 hours the S-3 reported spotting 5 NVA with weapons at grid coordinate YA820156. Artillery was employed and was on target. At 1310 hours Shady Boxer 46 arrived at LZ Joan for awards ceremonies and a short briefing. At 1825 hours CSF forces from Duc Co picked up two (2) Montagnards at grid coordinate YA8858375 that was with Cy War team. Personnel were dressed in tiger suits. AT 2140 hours C Company reported movement on the right side of the perimeter. Light organics were fired. At 2258 hours the S-3 received a new A/O change in preparation for a new firebase to be received 23 October 1968. A Company will secure the firebase and man 6 SRP position to the west and south of the firebase.
