Summary: Log opened at 0001 hours 4 October 1968. At 0640 hours D Co 1/35 Inf reported that their Kit Carson scout has been AWOL since 27 September 1968. Individual name (LETHAHN). S2 informed of this. At 0924 hours C Co 1/35 Inf reported small arms fire to the north of LZ Jean. Believed to be a wood cutting detail for the Special Forces Camp at Duc Co. At 0930 hours 1st Platoon from D Co searching the bunker complex at grid YA 823218. All bunkers destroyed and contaminated with C/S gas. At 1232 hours SRP team P from A Co 1/35 spotted 3 men sitting around hooch at grid YA 854228. No action taken. At 1720 hours SRP A from D Company heard what sounded like a generator running at grid YA 790285. This is the same location that they heard vehicle sounds at about 2 weeks ago. They also heard chopping at grid YA 780225. No action taken. At 2220 hours a message from Bde: LTC Mundie (1/35) will be Evaced to Japan Monday, 7 October 1968. At 1130 hours 5 October 1968 the new Battalion Commander will assume command. There will be a change of command ceremony. Have orders cut appointing LTC Buckner as the new Battalion Commander. 2220 hours: (C) Message from Whiz to Bn Command Sergeant Major: Tango 41 (LTC Mundie 1/35) will be evaced to Japan on Monday. At 1130 hours tomorrow 5 October 1968 the new Battalion commander will assume command. We will have command ceremonies, colors and color guards. Cut orders on the new Battalion Commander LTC Buckner, Garret D Service # 062679, PMOS-1542.
