On 31 July, 1966, Company A, 2/35th, while on an assignment to assess the results of an arc light mission, made contact with an estimated battalion size force in the Ia Drang Valley in the Kontum Mountains west of Pleiku. This action took place at the end of Operation Paul Revere I.
