The 35th Infantry Regiment Association salutes our fallen brother, PVT Richard M. Ross, 19015905, who died in the service of his country on January 14th, 1943 in Guadalcanal. The cause of death was listed as KIA. At the time of his death Richard was 23 years of age. He was from Bear Lake, Pennsylvania.
The decorations earned by PVT Richard M. Ross include: the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Distinguished Service Cross, the Purple Heart, the Asiatic-Pacific Service Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal.

Mrs Ella Ross of Bear Lake, Warren county, has been notified of the posthumous award of the Distinguished Silver Cross to her son, Private Richard M Ross, who was killed on Guadalcanal. The award is for extraordinary heroism on January 14, 1943, at Guadalcanal. Private Ross was member of a machine-gun section during an attack on a strongly held enemy position. The President of the United States takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Richard M. Ross (19015905), Private, U.S. Army, for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy, in action against enemy forces on 14 January 1943. Private Ross intrepid actions, personal bravery and zealous devotion to duty at the cost of his life, exemplify the highest traditions of the military forces of the United States and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
