Not For Place or For Rank
But In Simple Obedience To
Duty as They Understood It"

The 35th Infantry Regiment Association salutes our fallen brother, PVT Harold Warren Kopf, 42096715, who died in the service of his country on April 22nd, 1945 in Luzon. The cause of death was listed as DOW. At the time of his death Harold was 22 years of age. He was from Centerville, Pennsylvania.

The decorations earned by PVT Harold Warren Kopf include: the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart, the Asiatic-Pacific Service Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal.

Pfc Harold Warren Kopf, 22, a native, and for several years, a resident of Centerville, died on Apr. 22 from wounds in action on Luzon on Apr. 19. His parents Mr. and Mrs. Karl Kopf, of Buffalo, received the War Department telegrams last week and notified relatives in Centerville. The message telling of his death followed closely the one announcing that he was seriously wounded. No details as to how he was killed have been learned. In a recent letter home, the infantryman wrote that they were in the hills then and were very busy. Another letter received, a month ago, by Mrs. Kopf, was from a Filipino soldier and told of the bond of friendship between him and Pvt Kopf. In the Army only nine months, Pvt. Kopf was in the famous 25th Infantry Division which was in the Hawaiians at the time of Pearl Harbor. He was inducted last July and trained at Fort McClellan, Ala. Following a furlough just before Christmas, he left on Christmas morning for Fort Ord, Calif., where he spent a night with his uncle and aunt, Major and Mrs. G.F. Mitchell. The major is stationed at that fort. He was born on Oct 14, 1922, in Centerville and attended grade school there until the family moved to Buffalo. He was employed by the Curtis Wright Corporation there, and was in charge of eight machines at the time of his induction. Since the family moved away, Harold spent many summers here with his grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Lewis C. Walker.
