The 35th Infantry Regiment Association salutes our fallen brother, PVT Raleigh Odell Farmer, 06912637, who died in the service of his country on January 11th, 1943 in Guadalcanal. The cause of death was listed as KIA. At the time of his death Raleigh was 22 years of age. He was from LaSalle County, Illinois.
The decorations earned by PVT Raleigh Odell Farmer include: the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Distinguished Service Cross, the Purple Heart, the Asiatic-Pacific Service Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal.
He is buried in the Punchbowl in Honolulu.

The President of the United States takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Raleigh O. Farmer (6912637), Private, U.S. Army, for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving with the 35th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division, in action against enemy forces on 10 January 1943. Private Farmers intrepid actions, personal bravery and zealous devotion to duty at the cost of his life, exemplify the highest traditions of the military forces of the United States and reflect great credit upon himself, the 25th Infantry Division, and the United States Army.
