The 35th Infantry Regiment Association salutes our fallen brother, PVT Gerald E. Mann, 35712899, who died in the service of his country on October 27th, 1943 in Guadalcanal. The cause of death was listed as KP Accident. At the time of his death Gerald was 22 years of age. He was from Dayton, Ohio.
The decorations earned by PVT Gerald E. Mann include: the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Bronze Star, the Asiatic-Pacific Service Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal.
Gerald is buried in the Punchbowl in Honolulu. He was survived by his wife Betty Spohr Mann and a four-month old son Carl.
Gerald was with F Company Mess Section stove detail and was responsible for keeping the gasoline stoves cleaned and in proper order. Apparently one of the stoves exploded and he died from severe burns.
