The 35th Infantry Regiment Association salutes our fallen brother, PFC Elbert H. Spence, who died in the service of his country on January 17th, 1943 in Guadalcanal. The cause of death was listed as KIA. At the time of his death Elbert was 35 years of age. He was from Williamson County, Tennessee.
The decorations earned by PFC Elbert H. Spence include: the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart, the Asiatic-Pacific Service Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal.
This is the only picture of Elbert Spence that I have. My Grandmother remembers him well. He loved to cook. He was quiet and very kind. My Grandmother said he cooked for the entire family just before he shipped out. My Grandmother said our entire family was devastated when he was killed and they never brought him home.
