The 35th Infantry Regiment Association salutes our fallen brother, SFC Carl Leonard Goding, RA11197306, who died in the service of his country on April 3rd, 1952 in North Korea. The cause of death was listed as KIA. At the time of his death Carl was 20 years of age. He was from Farmington, Maine. Carl's Military Occupation Specialty was 1745-Light Weapons Infantry Leader.

The decorations earned by SFC Carl Leonard Goding include: the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Purple Heart, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Korea Service Medal, and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.

Carl was a very popular young man and graduated from Farmington High as the most popular in his class. He skied, played football and basketball and ran the mile in track where he won the North Eastern Championship. I greatly appreciate you getting this photo in the KIA Index. When Carl was killed it sent shock waves through his hometown. Farmington, Maine was a place where every one knew every one and Carl was a very popular figure. Soft spoken but one who would be welcome to be on your side during any kind of an encounter. I played basketball and football with Carl and everyone respected him for his work ethic. He was very strong but did not bully anyone and in fact he could be very docile but anyone who knew him was aware that it probably would not be a good idea to arouse him. I believe Carl graduated from High School in 1949 and am not sure when he joined up but the fact he was promoted to SFC in a relatively short time is a testament to his character and dedication. I would have been proud to have served under Carl and am sure he acquitted himself with honor and dignity.
