The 35th Infantry Regiment Association salutes our fallen brother, SFC Donald Bartholomew Atherton, RA31377200, who died in the service of his country on August 28th, 1950 in South Korea. The cause of death was listed as Seriously WIA by missile-Died of wounds (FECOM). At the time of his death Donald was 26 years of age. He was from El Paso County, Colorado. Donald's Military Occupation Specialty was 2745-Light Weapons Infantry Leader.

The decorations earned by SFC Donald Bartholomew Atherton include: the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Purple Heart, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Korea Service Medal, and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.

Sergeant First Class Atherton was a member of Baker Company of the 35th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division. He was seriously wounded in South Korea on August 21, 1950 and died of those wounds on August 28, 1950. Sgt. Atherton and I served on "C" Ration Hill near Mason S. Korea. He was killed while putting out flares. One tripped and hit him in the stomach He was a good leader and a good friend. I did not know him as well as others because he joined the company after we went to Korea
