The 35th Infantry Regiment Association salutes our fallen brother, PV2 William Robert James, RA18267555, who died in the service of his country on September 6th, 1950 in South Korea. The cause of death was listed as KIA. At the time of his death William was 24 years of age. He was from Wichita Falls, Texas. William's Military Occupation Specialty was 4745-Light Weapons Infantryman.

The decorations earned by PV2 William Robert James include: the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Purple Heart, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Korea Service Medal, and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.


Private James was a member of the 35th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action while fighting the enemy in South Korea on September 6, 1950. Private James was awarded the Purple Heart, the Combat Infantrymans Badge, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.

The body of Pvt. Bob James, Wichita Falls soldier killed-in-action in Korea September 6, is en route home for burial.

Eldon James, father of the soldier and employee of the parking meter division of the Wichita Falls Police Department, received a telegram late Thursday notifying him of the removal of his son's body.

Pvt. James had passed the Army's requirement to enter officers training in May 1950 and he was sent to Camp Stoneman, California August 18 and transferred to Korea shortly after.

The 25-year old youth was a veteran of WWII. He would have graduated from Midwestern University in August 1950 with a major in agriculture. He also showed extensive interest in creative writing, and was an associate editor of the college magazine "Owaklya" while attending the university.

James was a volunteer water safety instructor with the Red Cross.
