The 35th Infantry Regiment Association salutes our fallen brother, PFC William Anthony Schaufler, RA34105426, who died in the service of his country on September 9th, 1950 in South Korea. The cause of death was listed as KIA. At the time of his death William was 34 years of age. He was from Cullman, Alabama. William's Military Occupation Specialty was 4745-Light Weapons Infantryman.

The decorations earned by PFC William Anthony Schaufler include: the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Purple Heart, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Korea Service Medal, and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.

Private First Class Schaufler was a member of the 35th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action while fighting the enemy in South Korea on September 9, 1950. Private First Class Schaufler was awarded the Purple Heart, the Combat Infantryman's Badge, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.

William was also a WWII veteran.

CULLMAN HERO KILLED IN KOREA

A former Cullman county shoe shine boy died in action in Korea, Sept. 9, according to word received in Cullman Saturday from the Defense Department.

He was William Schaufler, 30, former shoe shine boy and employee at the Cullman Drug Store. Schaufler was also known as "Shoo-fly."

He leaves a brother, Ray of Cullman; one sister, Mrs. W.C. Wooten, of Montgomery; and his mother, of Montgomery.

Schaufler served with the paratroopers in World War Two. His feet were frozen, and he received an arm injury in the service. After his return to Cullman, he volunteered for service in Japan. He was again injured, though, and returned to the States.

At the outbreak of the Korean war, he again volunteered for overseas duty, and was assigned to the tank corps. Schaufler had been in Korea two months when he was killed.
