The 35th Infantry Regiment Association salutes our fallen brother, PFC James Marvin Saunders, RA19325601, who died in the service of his country on September 2nd, 1950 in South Korea. The cause of death was listed as KIA. At the time of his death James was 19 years of age. He was from Ukiah, California. James' Military Occupation Specialty was 4745-Light Weapons Infantryman.

The decorations earned by PFC James Marvin Saunders include: the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Purple Heart, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Korea Service Medal, and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.


Private First Class Saunders was a member of the 35th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division. He was seriously wounded by in South Korea on August 25, 1950 and returned to duty on August 27, 1950. He was Killed in Action while fighting the enemy in South Korea on September 2, 1950. Private First Class Saunders was awarded the Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Combat Infantryman's Badge, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.

He was known as "Jim." Son of George Marvin and Thelma (Velma) Saunders. He was originally from Colorado. His family moved to Ukiah, California, where he attended Ukiah Union High School.

Buried in the Golden Gate National Cemetery in San Bruno, CA. Section N Site 2901.
