The 35th Infantry Regiment Association salutes our fallen brother, PFC Corydon Wesley Benton, US53000838, who died in the service of his country on September 7th, 1951 in North Korea, Hills 717-682. The cause of death was listed as KIA. At the time of his death Corydon was 23 years of age. He was from Thomson, Georgia. Corydon's Military Occupation Specialty was 4745-Light Weapons Infantryman.

Private First Class Benton was a member of the 35th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division. He was seriously wounded by the enemy in South Korea on May 25, 1951 and returned to duty on June 24, 1951. He was Killed in Action while fighting the enemy in North Korea on September 7, 1951. Private First Class Benton was awarded the Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Combat Infantryman's Badge, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.

Corydon was involved in a battle which commenced on Sept. 6th 1951 in which companies L,I and M were holding two outpost well in front of the MLR (Main line of resistance). This area was known as the Iron Triangle (Hills 717-682). The defenders were completely surrounded by an estimated army of three regiments and had to fight their way out of the encirclement. P.F.C.
