The 35th Infantry Regiment Association salutes our fallen brother, CPL Walter Peter Janeczko, US51031677, who died in the service of his country on March 12th, 1952 in North Korea. The cause of death was listed as KIA. At the time of his death Walter was 22 years of age. He was from Bayonne, New Jersey. Walter's Military Occupation Specialty was 4667-Signal Message Clerk.

He was my uncle, Corporal Walter P Janeczko. In Korea, during the period September 1951 to 12 March 1952. As senior wireman, he displayed rare initiative and technical skill, directed the efforts of a wire laying team committed to the maintenance of a highly efficient communications network. Although constantly exposed to hostile fire and frequently traversin mine fields, the team furnished uninterrupted communications to the battalion. On 12 March, Corporal Janeczko voluntarily advanced to a forward position to repair lines of cummunication damaged by heavy mortar fire. Despite enemy shelling, he refused to seek the protection of nearby bunkers and remained at the forward position, repairing the lines to reestablish communications. While splicing the severed lines, a burst of mortar fire was received in the immediate area,mortally wounding him. Corporal Janeczkos consumate devotion to duty, inspirational courage and praiseworthy achievements contributed maerially to the regiments successful accomplishments in support of the United Nations pledge to freedom in Korea, reflecting credit on himself and the military service. For this he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal (Concetta Chandler)
