The 35th Infantry Regiment Association salutes our fallen brother, 2LT Robert Nelson Howe, O1926144, who died in the service of his country on July 4th, 1953 in North Korea, Outpost Dagmar. The cause of death was listed as KIA. At the time of his death Robert was 24 years of age. He was from Floral Park, New York. Robert's Military Occupation Specialty was 1542.
The decorations earned by 2LT Robert Nelson Howe include: the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Purple Heart, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Korea Service Medal, and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
Second Lieutenant Howe was a member of the 35th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action while fighting the enemy in North Korea on July 4, 1953. Second Lieutenant Howe was awarded the Purple Heart, the Combat Infantryman's Badge, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
Robert attended Pace College, now Pace University, in New York City, before entering the US Army. He graduated in 1951.
I grew up with LT. Howe in Floral Park and knew him as "Duke" when we played basketball in Our Lady of Victory school yard. We had some great games with all of the other guys who used to gather there regularly. I have fond remembrances of Duke and those years. (Ernie Schroeder)
