The 35th Infantry Regiment Association salutes our fallen brother, PV2 Neil E. Joppie, US55341474, who died in the service of his country on July 4th, 1953 in North Korea, Outpost Dagmar. The cause of death was listed as KIA. At the time of his death Neil was 20 years of age. He was from Vermontville, Michigan. Neil's Military Occupation Specialty was 1745-Light Weapons Infantry Leader.
The decorations earned by PV2 Neil E. Joppie include: the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Purple Heart, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Korea Service Medal, and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
Private Joppie was a member of the 35th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action while fighting the enemy in North Korea on July 4, 1953. Neil E. Joppie Killed in Action Is First Local Casualty
Youngest Son of Mr.and Mrs Leonard Joppie
Mr. and Mrs Leonard Joppie received word late Wednesday afternoon that
their son, Neil had been killed in action in Korea on July 4th.
Pvt. Joppie recently joined the 25th infantry Division in Korea, a heavy weapons specialist, he entered the army on December 9, 1952 and received basic training at Indiantown Gap, Pennsylvania. He landed at Sasebo, Japan June 8th and two days later left for Korea.
Neil E. Joppie was born September 22, 1932 and graduated from the
Vermontville high school with the class of 1950. Surviving besides the parents is one brother, Leonard, Jr., of Nashville; four sisters, Mrs. Warren (Leona) McNally of Albion, Mrs. Charles (Louise) Viele, Mrs. Larry (Barbara) Musser, both of Vermontville and Joanne at home,
and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Will Ward of Vermontville.
