The 35th Infantry Regiment Association salutes our fallen brother, PFC Jack Robert Westel, US55063820, who died in the service of his country on August 8th, 1951 in North Korea. The cause of death was listed as KIA. At the time of his death Jack was 23 years of age. He was from Cicero, Illinois. Jack's Military Occupation Specialty was 4745-Light Weapons Infantryman.

On August 8, 1951, he was on a night patrol in the vicinity of Seoul, South Korea, when he was killed by enemy small arms fire. Private First Class Westel was awarded the Purple Heart, the Combat Infantrymans Badge, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
