Gene Francis Klos was the first child of Frank Edward Klos and Amy Ruesink born on 10 May 1930 in Castlewood, South Dakota.

Gene served his country during the Korean War. He served as a Private First Class in Company L, 35th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division, 8th Army. Gene enlisted on 21 Jan 1949 at the age of 18 in Castlewood, South Dakota. He trained at Fort Smith in Arkansas and Fort Benning in Georgia. Gene was discharged on 20 Jan 1950. Gene was recalled to active duty on 12 Oct 1950 and continued his training at Fort Lewis in Washington.

Gene was killed in action in South Korea on 07 Mar 1951. He was 20 years old.
