The 35th Infantry Regiment Association salutes our fallen brother, CPL Marvin Royal, RA14302021, who died in the service of his country on September 7th, 1951 in North Korea. The cause of death was listed as MIA to Declared Dead. At the time of his death Marvin was 21 years of age. He was from Sampson County, North Carolina. Marvin's Military Occupation Specialty was 4745-Light Weapons Infantryman.

The decorations earned by CPL Marvin Royal include: the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Purple Heart, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Korea Service Medal, and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.


Sergeant Royal was a member of Company L, 3rd Battalion, 35th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division. He was listed as Missing in Action while fighting the enemy in North Korea on September 7, 1951. He was presumed dead on December 31, 1953. Sergeant Royal was awarded the Purple Heart, the Combat Infantryman's Badge, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.

Marvin was involved in a battle that raged from the 6th to 9th of September that involved the 3rd battalion companies of I,L and M in the Iron triangle in North Korea on hills 717 and 682. An estimated Chinese army of three regiments surrounded the three companies who were forced to fight their way out of the entrapment. Many of those who attempted to regain the MLR died by the hands of the Chinese and were left where they fell in the heavily woode d and mountainous terrain. This area was in Chinese hands and is in the DMZ now.
