The 35th Infantry Regiment Association salutes our fallen brother, PFC Sean P. McCune, who died in the service of his country on January 11th, 2009 in Iraq. The cause of death was listed as Accidental Homicide. At the time of his death Sean was 20 years of age. He was from Euless, Texas.

PFC Sean P. McCune, 20, of Euless, Texas, was born at Carswell Air Force Base, shortly before his father left the service. His parents were Sandra Denise James and Larry Dwain McCune. He was raised mostly in Haltom City and Grapevine and attended Haltom High School his freshman and sophomore years. He then moved to his mother's in Alabama and graduated from Curry High School in 2006. He moved back to Tarrant County Texas soon afterward and resumed living with his father in Euless. Sean had a desire from the age of 15 to join the military, following in the footsteps of his family- his father, grandfather and great-grandfather all served in the Air Force. His mother asked him to wait a year after high school to be sure. He enlisted in April of 2008 and took basic training at Fort Benning, Georgia. In August he was transfered to Schofield Barracks, Hawaii, assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 35th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division. Sean was gentle, sweet, loved to play computer and video games and enjoyed wildlife and photography. Until a few months ago, he still shot photos on an old manual-everything, film-only Nikon camera. He also had an enormous sweet tooth, although his slim body didn't show it. While stationed in Hawaii he surfed and took please in photographing its beauty and animals. He also had a mischievous side, loved to make people laugh and was protective of his sisters. Sean deployed to Iraq in October and died in Samarra, Iraq, of injuries sustained from a non-combat related incident. He is survived by his mother, Sandra Gibson; stepfather, Sandy of Jasper; father, Larry McCune of Texas; sisters, Amber McCune, Natasha Gibson and Vicki Gibson, all of Jasper; grandparents, June and Jesse King of Jasper, Carolyn McCune of Tyler, Texas and Joan Gibson of Ft. Worth, Texas; and a host of aunts, uncles and cousins. Sean was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Kenneth Victor James, Bill Gibson and Don Gibson.
