According to his Report of Casualty, Timothy died when high winds blew a stone structure on to the tent in which he was sleeping in the Company Area in the Mang Yang Pass. Here is Ken Whitmier's memory of the incident; Ken was 2/35th TOC NCOIC at the time.
"Yes, I remember Tim Abrams, he was a battalion driver, He was a real nice kid and a very respectful young man. This happened in the TOC area on Hwy 19. The weather had been very cold with high winds. We were all trying to stay warm and out of the high winds when the tragic accident happened. There was a standing wall made of cinder blocks that had been a part of an old house or store. The tent was erected on the wrong side of that wall and high winds blew the wall onto the tent."
