The 35th Infantry Regiment Association salutes our fallen brother, PFC David John Link, who died in the service of his country on February 26th, 1968 in Quang Nam Province, Vietnam. The cause of death was listed as Small Arms/AW. At the time of his death David was 19 years of age. He was from Grand Rapids, Michigan. David is honored on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial at Panel 41E, Line 40.

The decorations earned by PFC David John Link include: the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Purple Heart, the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm Unit Citation.

Pfc. David J Link, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward J. Link of 858 Carpenter Ave. NW, an infantry reconnaissance specialist, was killed by gunshot wound in South Vietnam. He was the 5th Grand Rapids area man to die in the war. He had telephoned his parents last week from Hong Kong where he was on R&R.

A 1966 graduate of Union High School, Link had worked briefly for Michigan Bell Telephone; about to begin training as a lineman when he enlisted in the Army in October 1966. He was sent to Vietnam August 11 1967.

Besides his parents, he is survived by three bothers, William; Lawrence; and Joseph; a sister. Mrs. Donald Stiles; and the grandmothers, Mrs. John Link and Mrs. Walter Muenzenmeyer, all of Grand Rapids.

David is buried in Resurrection Catholic Cemetery, Grand Rapids.He was a member of the Recon Platoon.
