The 35th Infantry Regiment Association salutes our fallen brother, SP4 Edward Joseph Wise, who died in the service of his country on July 27th, 1967 in Quang Ngai Province, Vietnam. The cause of death was listed as Small Arms/AW. At the time of his death Edward was 19 years of age. He was from Street, Maryland. Edward is honored on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial at Panel 24E, Line 11.

The decorations earned by SP4 Edward Joseph Wise include: the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Silver Star, the Purple Heart, the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm Unit Citation.

Edwards Silver Star Citation,

"On July 27,1967, Specialist Wise distinguished himself while serving as a rifleman in Company C, 2nd Battalion, 35th Infantry, 3rd Brigade, 25th Infantry Division. His platoon had been given the mission of searching out and clearing enemy tunnel systems in the area north of Duc Pho.

Specialist Wise uncovered a cleverly concealed tunnel/bunker complex, and in preparing to enter it, hurled a fragmentation grenade into the pit before descending. It was also then that he spotted four enemy soldiers at the other end of the complex.

Specialist Wise immediately engaged them with his pistol but was critically wounded by their return fire, Realizing that any of his comrades who came to his aid would be in mortal danger; he kept firing until he had eliminated the enemy. He succumbed to his wounds a short time later."
