The 35th Infantry Regiment Association salutes our fallen brother, PFC Daniel James Newman Jr., who died in the service of his country on March 21st, 1967 in Kontum Province, Vietnam. The cause of death was listed as Multi-Frag. At the time of his death Daniel was 22 years of age. He was from Niagara Falls, New York. Daniel is honored on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial at Panel 17E, Line 10.

The decorations earned by PFC Daniel James Newman Jr. include: the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Bronze Star with V, the Purple Heart, the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm Unit Citation.


From his obituary:

"Funeral services will be held for PFC Daniel J Newman Jr., 22, of 3625 Ferry Avenue. Mrs. Helen Newman, his mother, received word Friday that her son had died of shrapnel wounds on March 21 in Vietnam.

Besides his mother, Newman is survived by two sisters: Mary Lou Newman and Mrs. John (Barbara) Korb.

Chaplain John B.G. Roberts of the Niagara Falls Army Support Center will conduct funeral services at the Bell Funeral Home. Burial will be in the veterans plot of Riverdale Cemetery."
