The 35th Infantry Regiment Association salutes our fallen brother, SP4 Paul Lajada Ramos Jr., who died in the service of his country on May 13th, 1970 in Pleiku Province, Vietnam. The cause of death was listed as Helicopter Hit Truck. At the time of his death Paul was 20 years of age. He was from Ft. Bragg, North Carolina. Paul is honored on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial at Panel 10W, Line 36.
The decorations earned by SP4 Paul Lajada Ramos Jr. include: the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Bronze Star, the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm Unit Citation.

Paul came back from R & R with about 2 weeks left in country. The powers that be decided to send him back to the field in Cambodia. He was killed the day that we pulled out of Cambodia when a chinook became disoriented in the dust and rolled on to the back of a truck where Paul was sitting with his squad. He was a member of 3rd platoon Bravo Co. 2/35th Inf of the 4th INF Div. He had many friends who mourn him to this day.

I was a little girl of 9-10 living in Worms, Germany, where my father was stationed with the U.S. Army. Paul was 17 and his father was also stationed in Germany at another base. Our parents were friends and I have memories of a time when Paul's family visited us in Worms. I was just an annoying little tag-a-long, but I remember how friendly and smiling Paul was, how willing he was to hang w/an annoying little girl for those few hours. He brought along a couple of 45's and spun them on my portable record player. I can still see him dancing to "Groovin'" by the Rascals and "Chain of Fools" by Aretha. To this day I am incredibly moved to sadness when I hear these songs. My heart aches for the years he never knew and the emptiness his death brought to his family. This was a good man who left us much too soon.

We still remember you Paul
Paul was a classmate of mine at Aberdeen High School in Aberdeen, Md. A group of us would play football, baseball or just hang around. I remember Paul's smile. He was one of the nicest tempered guys in high school. A great guy. His father was transferred to another army post and I lost touch with him in 10th grade. I heard at my last reunion (30 yr) from a classmate that he was killed in Viet Nam. Paul, your friends at Aberdeen High School still remember you and we miss you.
