The 35th Infantry Regiment Association salutes our fallen brother, SP5 Roy Mitchell Jones, who died in the service of his country on May 28th, 1966 in Pleiku Province, Vietnam. The cause of death was listed as Small Arms/AW. At the time of his death Roy was 34 years of age. He was from Widener, Arkansas. Roy is honored on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial at Panel 07E, Line 113.

The decorations earned by SP5 Roy Mitchell Jones include: the Combat Medical Badge, the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart, the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm Unit Citation.


Roy is buried in the Forrest Park Cemetery, Forrest Park, AR

Roy M. Jones Services To Be At 2 Saturday.

Funeral services for Sp-5c Roy M. Jones, 34, of Kinton, who was killed in action Saturday in Viet Nam, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in Stevens Funeral Home.

Services will be conducted by a Navy chaplain from Millington, Tenn., Naval Air Station. Burial will be in Forrest Park Cemetery with pallbearers from Millington attending.

Specialist Jones was born at Kinton, near Widener, on June 29, 1931, the son of Essie Miller and Gene D. Jones. He lived at Kinton until entering the Army.

A Baptist, he was making a career of the Army and had been in service for 16 years. He also had been stationed in Germany, France, England and Korea.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by a brother, S-Sgt. Claude W. Jones, in the Air Force at Albuquerque, N.M.; three sisters, Mrs. James Bourne of Little Rock, Mrs. Richard S. Lucas of Parkin and Mrs. Paul Strickland of Ft. Myers, Fla.; and a niece, Miss Brenda Davis, of the home at Kinton.
