The 35th Infantry Regiment Association salutes our fallen brother, SP4 Carey Allen Fosnaugh, who died in the service of his country on January 23rd, 1970 in Binh Dinh Province, Vietnam. The cause of death was listed as Small Arms/AW. At the time of his death Carey was 20 years of age. He was from Willshire, Ohio. Carey is honored on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial at Panel 14W, Line 61.
The decorations earned by SP4 Carey Allen Fosnaugh include: the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart, the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm Unit Citation.

Fun in Band
I was a senior when Carey was a freshman and we set next to each other in high school band. He played bass clarinet and I played the regular clarinet. He would look around the band room and comment about the length of some of the girls skirts. I served a tour of duty in Vietnam and am sorry that Carey didnt return. I was honored to help dedicate the flag pole at our high school in honor of the 3 Parkway High School graduates who died in Vietnam.

Hello Carey! This is Lyn Marbaugh Powell, sister of your best friend, Wade. You spent many happy hours over the years in our home and I think of you often. I remember when you told me that you wax your car once a month, and I thought "This boy will go far". It was not to be. I was 24 when you passed, and I have never understood the national need for you to be put in harm's way. You were a sweet boy, open and honest, with no guile in your heart. You were a child victim of grown men with dishonarable agendas. As an only child you left your older parents with no family support in their advancing age, when your very essence would have led you to care for them today in a loving manner. It was not to be. As long as we are alive, Carey, there will be many who remember you.

The Bronze Star is Presented Posthumously to Specialist Four Carey A. Fosnaugh
For distinguishing himself by outstanding meritorious service in connection with ground operations against a hostile force in the Republic of Vietnam. Through his untiring efforts and professional ability, Specialist Four Fosnaugh consistently obtained outstanding results. He was quick to grasp the implications of new problems with which he faced as a result of the ever-changing situations inherent in a counterinsurgency operation and to find ways and means to solve those problems. The energetic application of his extensive knowledge has materially contributed to the efforts of the United States mission to the Republic of Vietnam to assist that country in ridding itself of the communist threat to its freedom. Specialist Four Fosnaugh's initiative, zeal, sound judgment, and devotion to duty have been in the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
