The 35th Infantry Regiment Association salutes our fallen brother, PFC Roger Allen Rickert, who died in the service of his country on September 27th, 1968 in Quang Duc Province, Vietnam. The cause of death was listed as Small Arms/AW. At the time of his death Roger was 20 years of age. He was from Bowler, Wisconsin. Roger is honored on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial at Panel 42W, Line 32.

The decorations earned by PFC Roger Allen Rickert include: the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart, the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm Unit Citation.

Roger was born November 22, 1947, the son of Melvin and Minnie Rickert. He graduated with the Bowler, WI High School class of 1965. He was active in FFA and played baseball. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was married to Janice Voelz and one son, Dennis.He was also survived by a sister, Gloria, and brothers Allen and Bruce.

Buried in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Mattoon, WI. Mattoon is located in central Wisconsin about 30 miles east of Wausau and on the west edge of the Menominee Indian Reservation. Take the exit for Rt 52 east off of I-39 in Wausau. Follow Rt 52 east until it meets Rt 45 (about 28 miles). Follow 52 east/45 North for about 4 miles to Rt 47 south. Turn onto Rt 47 south for about 7 miles to Phlox, WI. Turn south onto Rt D in Phlox and take this south to Mattoon (about 3 miles) it is a very small town and someone there can direct you to the cemetery. (Note he was from Bowler which is a few miles further south on Rt D. It could be that the cemetery is in the country towards Bowler.
