The 35th Infantry Regiment Association salutes our fallen brother, PFC David Raymond Haefner, who died in the service of his country on December 26th, 1967 in Quang Ngai Province, Vietnam. The cause of death was listed as Small Arms/AW. At the time of his death David was 20 years of age. He was from Williamsport, Pennsylvania. David is honored on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial at Panel 32E, Line 63.

The decorations earned by PFC David Raymond Haefner include: the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Purple Heart, the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm Unit Citation.


David is buried in St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery, Williamsport, PA

From his Obituary:

The eldest of 10 children, Specialist Haefner was born in Williamsport August 5, 1947. He attended St. Mary's and Williamsport High Schools. Before entering the service, October 18, 1966, he was employed by the Carroll House.

After Basic Training at Fort Knox, KY, and a leave spent with his parents over Christmas of last year, the young man was sent to Fort Polk, LA for advanced training. He left for Vietnam April 7 following a leave with his family.

Specialist Haefner was a member of St Boniface Catholic Church. Surviving besides his parents are four brothers: Lawrence, Charles, Steven, and Dennis; and five sisters: Ann Marie, Christine, Karen, Theresa Jane, and Anita.
