The 35th Infantry Regiment Association salutes our fallen brother, PFC William Larry Cummings, who died in the service of his country on October 21st, 1967 in Quang Tin Province, Vietnam. The cause of death was listed as Small Arms/AW. At the time of his death William was 19 years of age. He was from Jacksonville, Florida. William is honored on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial at Panel 28E, Line 45.

The decorations earned by PFC William Larry Cummings include: the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart, the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm Unit Citation.

William is buried at Evergreen Cemetery, Jacksonville, FL.

GI Fatally Wounded in Vietnam

Pfc. William L. Cummings, 19, who lived at 744 Court B, died Saturday from wounds received in combat while serving with the 35th Infantry, U.S. Army, in Vietnam, the Defense Department announced Tuesday.
Cummings had been in the Army for six months and in Vietnam for the past three months.
He attended New Stanton High School and graduated from the Job Corps.
Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Marlene Cummings; a brother Napoleon Cummings, currently with the U.S. Navy in Vietnam, and his father Taft Cummings. All are from Jacksonville.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete pending arrival of the body.


Obituary

CUMMINGS Rites for Pfc William Cummings, age 19, who passed in Vietnam Oct. 21, during a military operation, will be held today at 2 o'clock from the Mt. Ararat Baptist Church. Pfc Cummings was a native of Irvington, GA but had lived in this city for the past 11 years. He was a former student of the New Stanton high School. He resided at 744 Court B. He leaves his wife, Mrs. Arlene Cummings, city; father, Taft Cummings of Irvington, GA; brothers, Booker T. and Napoleon Cummings; sisters, Mrs. Helen Cull and Mrs. Jeanette Gorar; father and mother-in-law, Mr. Batch and Mrs Minnie Manning; aunts, uncles; cousins and other relatives and many friends. Interment will be made in the Evergreen Cemetery by Dallas Graham Funeral Director Leon Bland LFD.
