"In high school he was known as "Roy", not as "Charles". I knew of Roy but not personally. He graduated from Murphy High School in Mobile, Alabama same as I did in May, 1948 We had over 900 in our graduating class so difficult to know everyone personally. I remember Roy was a tall, lean person and was a very good basketball player. Roy, like so many others his age in Mobile had joined the Alabama National Guard (31st Infantry Division) prior to start of the Korean War. When the Korean War began the 31st Infantry Div. was activated and individuals were sent to Korea as replacements. So many, like Roy Hill, lost their life in combat. Roy worked at the same place as my brother in Mobile prior to being activated. My brother told me that when they received word of Roys combat death, the entire company was saddened by his death."
