The 35th Infantry Regiment Association salutes our fallen brother, PFC Gary Arthur Billhimer, who died in the service of his country on April 17th, 1967 in Binh Dinh Province, Vietnam. The cause of death was listed as Friendly Fire (Small Arms). At the time of his death Gary was 20 years of age. He was from Santa Fe Springs, California. Gary is honored on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial at Panel 18E, Line 38.

The decorations earned by PFC Gary Arthur Billhimer include: the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Purple Heart, the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm Unit Citation.

To a good, buddy
Gary was, a good friend and fun, to be around, at Basic training. We went, to different schools, together, him, at Santa high and me, at Pioneer. I was, in the 4th, infantry and was, in the bush, when I read about Gary, in the Army's Stars and Stripes and was saddened, by the news. You will and have been missed, all, of these years, but you, have never been, forgotten, by your 'ol buddy, Danny.

Good Bye Gary
Gary is the only person that was killed in Vietnam that I personally knew. We went to elementary school together at Cresson and Little Lake, went to Jr high school at Lake Center and finally both graduated from Santa Fe high school. He played football and basketball. I ran track. I went on to college, he went on to war. About a year ago I saw the movie "We Were Soldiers Once - and Young". I could not help thinking of Gary ever since seeing the movie. Gary was always an up beat person - fun to hang out with. Gary's relatives should know that many people will be forever proud of his sacrifice. Good-bye Gary.
