The 35th Infantry Regiment Association salutes our fallen brother, PFC George William McGhee, who died in the service of his country on January 20th, 1967 in Binh Dinh Province, Vietnam. The cause of death was listed as Small Arms/AW. At the time of his death George was 22 years of age. He was from Lockney, Texas. George is honored on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial at Panel 14E, Line 58.
The decorations earned by PFC George William McGhee include: the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Bronze Star with V, the Purple Heart, the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm Unit Citation.
George is buried in the Lockney Cemetery row 48, space 21, on the east side of Lockney on Hwy 378. Lockney is located in west Texas about halfway just east of a line between Amarillo and Lubbock. Take Exit 49 (Rt 70 east) off of Interstate 27. Go east on Rt 70 about 17 miles to Lockney. Turn onto Rt 378 in Lockney and cemetery will be on east side of this small town.
