The 35th Infantry Regiment Association salutes our fallen brother, PFC James Joseph Curry, who died in the service of his country on April 1st, 1969 in Pleiku Province, Vietnam. The cause of death was listed as Small Arms/AW. At the time of his death James was 21 years of age. He was from Boston, Massachusetts. James is honored on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial at Panel 28W, Line 102.
The decorations earned by PFC James Joseph Curry include: the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart, the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm Unit Citation.
James died of wounds inflicted on March 25, 1969. James was wounded in a meeting engagement with 2-3 enemy soldiers at map grid ZA 015697, 10 KM W-NW OF PLEI MRONG. Jewell Green was KIA in the same engagement.
James is buried in the Holy Cross Cemetery in Malden, MA.

My brother was more than just a brother. My dad died when I was six years old in 1967. It's hard to describe the void that was left at that time. My brother Jimmy, for the short period of time that he was allowed to spend with me, made the absolute best of it. As far as being a big brother....he was a king. My brothers and I all miss him dearly. I can only be grateful to have known him, no matter how short the time. If God is willing I will see you once again my brother.

I remember watching Jimmy playing in a rock and roll band. He was the bass player. He always looked so happy when he was playing in the band. There was a garage in our neighborhood that had a flat roof and every week the band would play on top of it while all us kids in the neighborhood would gather round and listen. Every time I drive by that place I think of Jimmy. I will always be grateful for his sacrifice. He was a truly good man.
One of my best friends who I will never forget and often wonder what it would be like today having Jimmy around with his sense of humor
