The 35th Infantry Regiment Association salutes our fallen brother, SP4 Gary Alfred Rust, who died in the service of his country on November 11th, 1968 in Pleiku Province, Vietnam. The cause of death was listed as Small Arms/AW. At the time of his death Gary was 21 years of age. He was from Southbridge, Massachusetts. Gary is honored on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial at Panel 39W, Line 52.

The decorations earned by SP4 Gary Alfred Rust include: the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart, the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm Unit Citation.

Army Specialist Four Gary A Rust, son of Murel and Ada Rust of 890 West Main Street, Southbridge was killed in action Monday according to word received by his parents Tuesday night. He had enlisted in the Army for three years and received his Basic Training at Fort Dix, N.J. Gary was born in Rochester, NY and attended Franklin Academy High School in Malone, NY. Prior to joining the service Gary was employed at the American Optical Company. Besides his parents Gary leaves four brothers, Gerald; Harold; Jason; and Neil Rust and four sisters, Janice; Joanne; Sherry; and Melanie Rust.
