The 35th Infantry Regiment Association salutes our fallen brother, SP4 Jimmie Ellis Taylor, who died in the service of his country on October 25th, 1966 in Pleiku Province, Vietnam. The cause of death was listed as Convoy Ambush. At the time of his death Jimmie was 20 years of age. He was from Carrolton, Georgia. Jimmie is honored on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial at Panel 11E, Line 106.

The decorations earned by SP4 Jimmie Ellis Taylor include: the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Purple Heart, the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm Unit Citation.

Jimmie is buried in CARROLLTON CITY CEMETERY, CARROLLTON, GA


From his obituary:

A 20-year old Carrollton soldier has become Carroll County's first casualty in the Viet Nam war. Army SP4 Jimmy E Taylor, son of Mr. and Mrs. Hoyt Taylor, was killed around 6:45 Tuesday morning.

An officer attached to Fort McPherson in Atlanta notified the parents around 2 p.m. A spokesman for the family gave the only information available. SP4 Taylor was riding in a truck and the truck ran over a mine.

Taylor attended Carrollton High School and was employed by Hubbard Slacks in Bremen before entering the service, He entered the Army in December of 1965 and completed his Basic at Fort Benning, GA. In April of this year, he completed advanced infantry training, plus a week of guerrilla warfare training at Fort Polk, LA. He was assigned to duty in Viet Nam around the first of May.

In addition to his parents, SP4 Taylor is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Jimmy McDowell and Jill Taylor; and two brothers, Andy and Mike.

Jimmie, It's taken this long to locate you.Thank you for the sacrifice you made for the people in Viet Nam and the U. S. I remember well the good times we had together when we were young.I made you and your brothers and sisters the halloween pumpkin and we all played football together. We didn't know then that this is how it would end.I am so very sorry you never had a chance to experience life and a lengthy happiness and chance at normalcy.God rest your soul until we meet again at His feet and in His presence.
