The 35th Infantry Regiment Association salutes our fallen brother, PFC Jake A. Simmons, who died in the service of his country on October 25th, 1966 in Pleiku Province, Vietnam. The cause of death was listed as Convoy Ambush. At the time of his death Jake was 19 years of age. He was from Baytown, Texas. Jake is honored on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial at Panel 11E, Line 105.

The decorations earned by PFC Jake A. Simmons include: the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Purple Heart, the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm Unit Citation.

JAKE WAS ONE OF THE KINDEST PEOPLE I HAVE EVER KNOWN. HE ALWAYS HAD A SMILE AND A GOOD WORD TO SAY ABOUT EVERYONE. LIKE THEY SAY THE GOOD DIE YOUNG. HE WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN- ALWAYS OUR HEARTS. LOVE YOU.

Jake was a quiet but friendly young man in high school. My husband and I attended Robert E. Lee High School in Baytown with Jake and his sister. When we received word of Jake's death in Viet Nam, we had gone back to our separate colleges; but we returned home to Baytown for Jake's funeral.
It has been almost 30 years, but from time to time, Pat and I talk about what a really sweet guy Jake was ... a good, good person and friend. We miss him. We just want someone to know that he is missed.
