The 35th Infantry Regiment Association salutes our fallen brother, SSG Jimmie Howard, who died in the service of his country on April 23rd, 1967 in Quang Ngai Province, Vietnam. The cause of death was listed as Small Arms/AW. At the time of his death Jimmie was 22 years of age. He was from Columbus, Georgia. Jimmie is honored on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial at Panel 18E, Line 75.

The decorations earned by SSG Jimmie Howard include: the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Bronze Star with V, the Purple Heart, the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm Unit Citation.

Howard: Funeral services for Staff Sgt. Jimmy Howard of 603 D Elizabeth Canty Apartments will be held Wednesday, 12 O'clock from Greater Beulah Baptist Church, 613 6th Ave. with Rev. J.W. Mitchell officiating. Burial will be in Post Cemetery, Fort Benning, GA. Sgt. Howard was killed in the Vietnam conflict April 23rd and will be given full military honors. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Claudie C. Howard; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Woodrow Howard; five sisters, Mrs. Geraldine Johnson, Panama Canal, Miss Gloria Jean Howard, Mis Reta D. Howard, Miss Carolyn Howard, and Miss Denise Howard all of Columbus: one brother, Pvt Larry O. Howard of Fort Knox, Kentucky; his grandparents, Rev. and Mrs. G. H. Henry and Mr. and Mrs. Willie Howard, all of Phoenix City, Alabama.
