The 35th Infantry Regiment Association salutes our fallen brother, SFC William Claude Poole, who died in the service of his country on March 6th, 1967 in Binh Dinh Province, Vietnam. The cause of death was listed as Small Arms/AW. At the time of his death William was 38 years of age. He was from Memphis, Tennessee. William is honored on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial at Panel 16E, Line 30.

The decorations earned by SFC William Claude Poole include: the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Silver Star, the Purple Heart, the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm Unit Citation.

On March 6, 1967 in military operations against a hostile force in the Republic of Vietnam SFC William Claude Poole of Memphis, TN was serving as a platoon leader for Company B, 1st Battalion, 35th Infantry, which was conducting a search and destroy operation near the village of Hoa Tan.

Intense enemy fires killed Bill as he himself led a platoon of young, scared soldiers. His display of aggressiveness, devotion to duty, and personal bravery will not be forgotten. Bill, you are on a wall of honor at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington D.C., Panel 16, East Line Number 30, beside your Vietnam brother Steve Peck, the reconnaissance sergeant. There are also 58,227 others with you.
