On March 6, 1967 in military operations against a hostile force in the Republic of Vietnam SFC William Claude Poole of Memphis, TN was serving as a platoon leader for Company B, 1st Battalion, 35th Infantry, which was conducting a search and destroy operation near the village of Hoa Tan.
Intense enemy fires killed Bill as he himself led a platoon of young, scared soldiers. His display of aggressiveness, devotion to duty, and personal bravery will not be forgotten.
